Dr. Yara Catoira-Boyle grew up in Brazil, South American where she attended the University of Brasilia, obtaining her Medical Degree in 1996. She completed her Internal Medicine Internship at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach in 1997. In 1998, she started her Ophthalmology Residency at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she completed training at the top of her class. Upon completing a Glaucoma specialization at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, in 2003.

Dr. Catoira-Boyle joined the faculty of the Department of Ophthalmology at IU as an Assistant Clinical Professor and the Roudebush VA Eye Section as their only glaucoma specialist providing specialized cataract and glaucoma surgery to Indianapolis Veterans. Dr. Catoira-Boyle’s career brought her to the position of Chief of Ophthalmology at the Roudebush VA Medical Center from 2016 to 2019.

She is currently an adjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the IU Department of Ophthalmology. She has been teaching residents to perform cataract and glaucoma surgery since 2003.

Dr. Catoira-Boyle recently completed two terms as president of the Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology, where she advocated tirelessly for quality eye care in the state of Indiana.

She is a graduate of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Leadership Development Program class of 2015. She is recognized in the state and nationally for her personable and excellent patient care as well as surgical abilities and research presentations. 

Dr. Catoira-Boyle has made her final career step towards private practice, where she finds the most rewarding part of her career: being in the room close-up with a patient, helping others preserve and improve their vision through prevention, medications, laser and incision surgery.
