Prevent Blindness and Responsum Health Announce Impressive Growth in Patient-focused Resource, “The Glaucoma Community”
The Glaucoma Community by Prevent Blindness earns 2022 sponsorship from Glaukos and Santen Pharmaceutical
[WASHINGTON, D.C., March 1, 2022] —Both Glaukos and Santen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., have provided grants to Prevent Blindness, the nation’s oldest eye health and safety non-profit organization, in support of The Glaucoma Community by Prevent Blindness, a patient knowledge app and online community of more than 2,000 individuals, launched in partnership with Responsum Health.
Since its inception, The Glaucoma Community has been downloaded by over 2,000 individuals and its content-heavy landing page has attracted over 50,000 individual visitors.
Thoughtfully designed to best serve people with glaucoma, The Glaucoma Community provides users with a free toolkit of useful, community-oriented features. The platform offers a dedicated social engagement page; a feature to help individuals organize their health information; and a personalized newsfeed designed to meet the needs of the user, which delivers easy-to-read summaries of important glaucoma news and information from across the internet every day. All Glaucoma Community content is written by professional health writers and vetted by a team of reviewers under the expert guidance of Prevent Blindness. Materials are available in multiple languages.
Glaucoma is an eye disease that causes loss of sight by damaging a part of the eye called the optic nerve. The damage causes vision loss in patches, most frequently one’s side, or peripheral, vision. The prevalence of glaucoma increases with age. Black and Hispanic populations, as well as women in general, are also at higher risk for the disease. Glaucoma is a serious eye disease that can lead to vision loss if not diagnosed early, treated, and controlled.
“We know that there is currently no cure for glaucoma. However, the good news is that if detected and treated early, vision loss can be significantly lessened,” said Jeff Todd, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness. “Through The Glaucoma Community, we are able to provide patients and their caregivers with the information they need to help protect their vision.”
“We are excited and grateful that both Glaukos and Santen see the value that The Glaucoma Community resource is bringing for thousands of people living with glaucoma. Their support will allow us to continue to provide this tool for free to our users,” said Founder and CEO of Responsum Health Andrew Rosenberg. “We strive to make The Glaucoma Community as valuable to our commercial partners as it is to patients, and we will continue to actively seek additional sponsors for this program in 2022 and beyond.”
